General Information

  1. Key Laboratory of Systems and Control

The predecessor of the Laboratory is the Research Division of Control Theory founded in 1962 in the Institute of Mathematics, CAS. During that time, the field of systems and control was newly emerged. Noticed the importance of this new direction, the leading scientist in China, Prof. Tsien Hsue-Shen, the author of "Engineering Cybernetics" (1954), proposed to establish this division, and his proposition was realized by Prof. Kwan Chao-Chih, serving as the first Head of the Division with Prof. Song Jian as his deputy.

In 1994, to meet the requirements from the flourishing research activities in systems and control, the Key Laboratory of Systems and Control was founded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, based on the Division of Control Theory. The first director is Professor Han-Fu Chen(1994-1998), the second director is Professor Lei Guo(1999-2002), the third director is Professor Jifeng Zhang (2003-2009) and the current director is professor Yiguang Hong.

The main goal of this Lab. is to organize a high level efficient research team, taking the advantage of cross-disciplines, to carry out researches on key problems which have universal meanings in science, engineering, and other fields of applications. The Lab. is aimed at creative theoretical results advanced in the world and application results for important practical projects. Meanwhile, the Lab. also devotes much of its efforts on cultivating young talents.

The Lab. is one of the most important research centers on Systems and Control in China. It is also a center for international academic exchanges in the field.  In the past decades, we obtained about 10 important international prizes and honors and 7 important national awards
